Kevin completed his PhD in clinical psychology at West Virginia University and his post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Virginia in the United States. He has been working in the field of chronic pain and illness for the majority of his career and has published over 45 articles in the area since beginning his doctoral training in the autumn of 2002.
From 2005 to 2009, he worked as a senior research fellow and clinical psychologist within the Centres for Pain Research and Services, which are based within the School for Health, University of Bath and Royal National Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases NHS Foundation Trust. In the summer of 2009, he accepted a position as consultant clinical psychologist post with the Haywood Hospital and Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre at Keele University to aid in the development of a novel interdisciplinary pain rehabilitation programme to be offered at the interface of primary and secondary care.
Kevin splits his time between clinical and academic work, with each of these areas informing the other. His primary areas of interest include the design and provision of effective interventions and identification of processes by which treatment works. He serves on the editorial boards for the European Journal of Pain and Pain Medicine. He currently co-chairs the Psychosocial Research SIG of the American Pain Society and serves as the Secretary and Treasurer for the UK branch of the Association of Contextual Behavioural Science.
Kevin provides academic and clinical supervision to a number of Masters and Doctorate (PhD and DClinPsy) students.
