After completing my medical degree at the University of Birmingham in 2005, I moved to North Staffordshire in 2005.  I was awarded an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellowship in General Practice and completed my GP training in 2011.  I have recently been awarded an NIHR Doctoral Research Fellowship award to research the link between multisite pain and falls in older people.

I have previously undertaken work exploring medical student views towards low back pain and the ethical challenges of medical students as research participants.
My clinical practice generated my interest in sickness certification and subsequently led to my qualitative MPhil exploring the views of GPs, nurses and physiotherapists towards extending the authority to certify sickness absence in primary care.
My PhD has shifted focus towards quantitative methodologies and I am currently investigating the link between multisite pain (pain in more than one part of the body) and falls in older people.   My work is funded by the National Institute for Health Research.
