Ross is a Research Councils of the United Kingdom (RCUK) research fellow in epidemiology. He originally graduated as a physiotherapist and worked as a clinician, specialising in musculoskeletal conditions. In 2000, he joined Keele University and began his research career which has focused on the impact of musculoskeletal pain. In 2006, he completed his PhD in epidemiology, titled “A study of osteoarthritis and participation restriction in community-dwelling older adults”. In his post-doctoral work he has developed an innovative programme investigating the impact of musculoskeletal conditions and pain in older adults, with a particular focus on participation, work and healthy ageing.
