I gained my MBChB from Sheffield University in 2005. I did my foundation training at the University Hospital of North Staffordshire and Stafford General Hospital. I then joined the North Staffs Vocational Training Scheme. As part of this I enrolled on the MMedSci program through the Primary Care Sciences department of Keele University and have completed the modular components of this degree. At present I am an Academic GP Registrar spending 80% of my working week in general practice and 20% completing the dissertation component of my MMedSci at the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre. I am due to complete my GP training in August 2011 and following this will move into research full time undertaking a PhD.
My current research project is a cross sectional survey of UK general practitioners looking at their views on and current practice in monitoring osteoarthritis. The survey also asks GP's views on adding osteoarthritis as a domain to the Quality and Outcomes Framework of the GP contract.
From August I will be undertaking a PhD looking at the associations between gout and cardiovascular, cerebrovascular and peripheral vascular disease.
I have been involved in teaching undergraduate medical students and junior doctors in a variety of clinical settings.
This year I will be a small group facilitator on the Quantitative Research Methods SCC for the undergraduate medical students.
