I qualified from the Liverpool School of Physiotherapy in 1972 and after working across a variety of NHS and Private settings I was given the opportunity in 1986 to develop a new role of a Physiotherapist specialising in musculoskeletal conditions working in Primary Care. This led me to ask many questions of physiotherapy practice and to help answer some of these I studied for an MSc which I completed in 2001. During my studies I forged links with the Primary Care Sciences Centre at Keele and in 2005 joined the Keele team as a Physiotherapy Research Facilitator. This post aims to help ‘bridge the gap’ between research and real clinical practice and promote evidence based practice.

My research interests include new primary care physiotherapy interventions with a particular interest in the psychological aspects of managing musculoskeletal patients in primary care, patient self referral to primary care physiotherapy services and patient reported outcome measures in physiotherapy practice.
