I initially trained as a physiotherapist and prior to my Keele appointment I worked clinically, predominantly managing patients with musculoskeletal disorders in a variety of NHS and private settings. I joined Keele in 2003 as a Research Physiotherapist following completion of an MSc in Neuromusculoskeletal Healthcare here at Keele. I obtained a PhD in 2009 for a thesis investigating the role of attitudes and beliefs of health care practitioners in the management of low back pain.
My primary research interest is the management of common musculoskeletal problems in primary care, with a particular focus on back pain. I have experience in survey research and clinical trials. A particular interest is the role of the attitudes and perceptions that both patients and health care practitioners hold about pain and musculoskeletal conditions and specifically how these impact on the translation of research evidence into everyday clinical practice.
