I came to Keele in 2005 as a research physiotherapist working within Primary Care Sciences, to take over the trial coordination of a large knee pain trial in primary care (the APEX Trial). Previously I held an appointment as a Superintendent Physiotherapist within Mid Staffordshire Hospitals Acute Unit Trust and have worked for over 15 years in the NHS as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist.

I completed my training to become a physiotherapist in 1976. My first degree, BSc (Hons) Health Sciences, was granted by Coventry Polytechnic in 1991. I obtained an MSc in Neuromusculoskeletal Health Care from the University of Keele in 2003. My dissertation was an interview study to explore physiotherapist assessment of psychosocial factors in patients with low back pain.

I am registered with the Health Professions Council and a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP).

My current role is Study Interventions Manager within the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre. My research is mostly concerned with the delivery of musculoskeletal interventions in primary care, and health care research management.

At present I serve on one of the Keele Ethics Committees and am a member of a working party for West Midlands North Comprehensive Local Research Network looking at the NIHR “Time to Target” initiative.
