I came to Keele in 1997, having been Principal Lecturer in Social and Health Research at Coventry University. Following an undergraduate degree in English (University of Durham), my postgraduate education was in Sociology (South Bank Polytechnic), Philosophy (Keele University) and Statistics (Sheffield Hallam University).
I am a Chartered Statistician and Fellow of the Royal Statistical Society.
My research within Keele is located in the Arthritis Research UK Primary Care Centre within the Research Institute for Primary Care and Health Sciences and in the Social Policy group within the Research Institute for Social Sciences. I also work with the Centre for Professional Ethics.
I am a Front-Line Advisor in statistics and clinical trial methods in the West Midlands Research Design Service.

At present I serve on Sub-Panel 3 of the 2014 Research Excellence Framework, having previously been Chair of Sub-Panel 12 of the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise, and on the East Midlands committee of the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit funding scheme.
