DLHE survey of Summer 2012 graduates of Keele University
Introduction
Every year we ask all those who have recently completed a course here to take part in a survey to find out what happens to them after they leave Keele. We are interested in any work and/or further study you will be doing on 14 January 2013. We are asking everyone, even those who have continued to study here, what they will be doing on that date, so that the information is comparable.
We are posting questionnaires to UK and other EU home addresses during November, but you may prefer to reply using this web-based questionnaire; see the instructions below. It should only take a few minutes to complete - most of the questions just require you to tick a box with your answer.
About the Survey
This is a national survey of everyone who has recently qualified from any university or HE college in the UK between 1 January and 31 July 2012. The information you provide will also be very useful to us at Keele to advise current and future students about the opportunities that may be available to them. Also, the tables published by the national newspapers and others which show the performances of UK universities include data compiled from this survey.
Last year nearly 83% of qualifiers across the UK responded to the survey, and of these over 90% reported that they were in work or further study (some people were doing both, and less than 10% were assumed to be unemployed). More results can be found here – http://www.hesa.ac.uk/content/view/2513/393/
It will be helpful to receive your completed questionnaire by 31st January 2013.
If we do not hear from you, we will contact you again, possibly by phone. If we cannot get in touch with you at all, we may try to get information about what you are doing either from someone else here at Keele, or from someone we can reach using the contact information you have previously provided. If you don't want us to do this, or you don't want to give us any information at all, please tell us. (Email Chris Wain)
A follow up survey is planned for 2 or 3 years time so that we can get even more information about the early careers of those with HE qualifications. You may be asked to take part in this follow-up survey, which will be carried out by a different organisation. The current survey may be audited - that is checked to make sure it has been carried out correctly. If you don't want to take part in the follow-up survey, or to be contacted during an audit, please let us know. (Email Chris Wain)
What happens to your information
The information provided will be helpful in informing the university's Schools and in guiding present and future students at Keele University. All information will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act, and no one will be able to find out information about you personally. If you have given us a new address, this, and this only, may be kept by the University's alumni office, to enable us to keep you informed with university news and to be invited to reunions.
We will send the coded data from this form to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). By returning this form, you are accepting that this will be linked to other information held about you as a student, including similar coded information you gave when you enrolled, and details of the qualification you gained. HESA will pass your record, or parts of it, to the organisations that need the information to carry out their statutory functions connected with funding higher education.
HESA and these organisations will use the information mainly to produce statistics. Your record will not be used in a way that could affect you personally.
Under the Data Protection Act 1998, you have the right to a copy of the information HESA holds about you. You will have to pay a small fee for this. If you have any concerns about your information being used for these purposes, please contact HESA.
