Ordinance XXI: Duties of the Academic Staff
1. It shall be the duty of Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers, or Lecturers and members of the electoral roll to devote themselves to the advancement of knowledge in their subjects, to give instruction therein to students, and to promote the interests of the University as a place of education, learning and research.
2. Professors, Readers, Senior Lecturers and Lecturers shall carry out such duties as shall be allocated to them by the Head of the relevant Department/School and such other teaching duties and general supervision of students as directed by the Senate.
3. Members of the academic staff shall not undertake any work, except for examining duties and occasional lectures, for remuneration, outside the scope of their University office without the consent of the Council. The Council may, however, delegate such powers of consent as it may think fit to the Vice-Chancellor, provided always that no members of the academic staff shall at any time undertake work outside the scope of their office to such an extent that it interferes with the satisfactory performance of the duties of their office.
4. Professors shall be liable, if appointed, to serve as Head of Department/School unless excused therefrom by the terms of appointment (see Ordinance VII).
