Section 18 - The Senate
1. The Senate shall consist of the following persons, namely:-
a) The Vice-Chancellor who if present shall preside at all meetings of the Senate.
b) The Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost and the Pro Vice-Chancellors and the Deans (including the Chairs of the Boards of Studies and Faculties).
c) The Director of Planning and Academic Administration and the Secretary to Council.
d) The Librarian.
e) Heads of Departments and Schools as prescribed by Ordinance.
f) Such members of the electoral roll not exceeding two as may be appointed by the Senate.
g) Such additional number of members of the electoral roll elected by the electoral roll as necessary to constitute as nearly as possible (but not exceeding) 40% of the total membership of the Senate inclusive of the members stated in (j) below. Ordinances shall prescribe the constitution of the electoral roll and the method of election.
h) The President of the Students' Union.
The President of the Association of Postgraduate Students.
Three full-time Students to be elected by the Students.
Full-time Students shall be defined by Ordinance. Ordinances shall prescribe the method of election.
2. One third of the members of the Senate in categories (g) and (h) shall retire in each year, the method of retirement by rotation being prescribed by Ordinance.
3. Members of the Senate in category (i) shall not attend for items of business in the reserved areas defined in Section 34.
4. Elected members of the Senate in category (i) shall serve as such for one year only without prejudice to their election in a subsequent year.
