Campus Events for Year 8 & 9

These themed conferences are an opportunity for learners to come to Keele and experience life as a student for a day.  They will take part in lectures and workshops and interact with current students as well as Keele academics. Each day focuses on a different theme and includes material from a number of Keele research groups.

The themes for this year are:

Holocaust Memorial Conference

Wednesday 22nd January 2014

Our oldest and most eagerly anticipated conference. This conference will aim to blend lectures on genocide, along with more interactive sessions about the 1930s Jewish Holocaust, and round off with a talk from a holocaust survivor.

Ethics Conference

Wednesday 5th February 2014

A new conference for 2014, the Ethics Conference shall aim to get the young people considering the big questions, as well as more subject specific sessions around medical ethics and modern day morality

World War I Conference

Wednesday 12th February 2014

To commemorate 100 years of the outbreak war in Europe. The day will aim to look into the history of the conflict, it’s effects and a more human view to the effects of the Great War.

Women in Science

Wednesday 5th March 2014

A conference that shall highlight the importance of women’s contribution to science and to encourage both your female and male learners to consider studying Science beyond GSCEs and A-Levels.

Shake it Up!

Wednesday 19th March 2014

This event shall consider all this geology, on Earth and beyond! Sessions will aim to look at Earthquakes and their effects on the landscape and on Earth’s inhabitants. With a view to look at real Earthquakes, and their causes.

Shakespeare Conference

Thursday 26th June 2014

To commemorate 400 years of the second Globe theatre opening, this conference will aim to assist the curriculum by investigating the main themes of Shakespeare’s work with a variety of sessions delivered by experts in this area.
