Progression to…
Progression to… is a scheme for Year 12 learners that aims to provide information, advice and helpful support to those with an interest in pursuing a career in the following subjects:
Medicine
OR
Law
About the Scheme
Progression to… is an exciting opportunity that aims to give a varied insight into the subjects of Medicine and Law as well as University Life. Throughout the scheme young people will be provided with direct access to Medicine and Law professionals, academics and undergraduate students.
The scheme will provide information, advice and guidance on Higher Education, careers, and specialist application and interview support to help learners make informed decisions in order to progress and succeed in these areas.
What does Progression to... involve?
The scheme will provide a wide range of support and activities including:
- A scheduled programme of 3 events (1 per term) here at Keele
- eMentoring, via a secure online website, with current students and professionals where possible. Students can also continue to be supported via eMentoring as they go into Year 13.
- Opportunities for career related visits scheduled during the holidays such as visits to the University Hospital of North Staffordshire’s Careers and Skills Academy, Stoke Crown Court and Knights Solicitors PLC.
Programme of Events for 2013-14- Please be aware that some dates may be subject to change
| Wednesday 4th December- Meet the professionals launch | This first event gives learners an introduction to Law and Medicine with talks from Keele Academics as well as the chance to take part in ice breaker activities and face to face mentoring sessions with professionals, university staff and current students. |
| Wednesday 12th March- School of Law and School of Medicine Event | The second scheduled event will see the learners visiting either the School of Medicine or the School of Law here at Keele to take part in taster sessions and find out what it is really like to study these subjects at university. |
| Wednesday 9th July- Planning your future | The final event in the programme will support learners through the process of applying to University. Specialist advice and guidance will be provided on UCAS, personal statements and interview skills. |
Opportunities for Career related visits will be scheduled in the February Half term and Easter holidays.
Further information and how to apply
Application to Progression to... requires:
- Information from the learner, including a personal statement
- Support from the school, who must also provide information on predicted grades and a short reference
- Consent from a parent/guardian.

Supporting your learners in applying
Here at Keele we want to recruit learners who will be successful at the University regardless of their educational and social background, applicants must meet the majority if not all of the eligibility criteria.
- Ability to meet Keele’s entry requirements for Law or Medicine (Please click here for more details on entry requirements)
- Commencing Year 12 studies in September 2013
- Have an interest in studying and/or pursuing a career in law or medicine
- Learners will meet HEFCE’s WP requirements detailed on our terms and conditions webpage
