Introduction

Keele University School of Nursing and Midwifery offers a unique experience for prospective Nurses and Midwives.  It is a well established School with highly rated programmes, which enjoy high success rates and high retention rates, together with modern, purpose-built facilities in which to study. Our student intake numbers ensure that you will receive individual attention and, because of the relatively small numbers of students in each clinical specialty, you will get plenty of 'hands-on' experience with patients in a wide variety of settings.

Programmes we offer:

  • Nursing (all fields) - Degree programmes
  • Midwifery - Degree programme

Please see our course information sheets for details of our entry criteria, and click here for details of how to apply.

Students will get the opportunity to work practically and theoretically with members of the wider healthcare profession throughout their programme of education.

Prospective students who may not have the necessary entry requirements may enrol upon a Health Foundation Year course in order prepare for entry into the chosen degree pathway.

Health Foundation Year

Assessments

Pre-registration programmes require assessment of students’ theoretical knowledge (assessment of theory) and their practical ability (assessment of practice). Equal emphasis is placed on both these two elements of assessment and both must be successfully completed in each module to allow progression through the programme.

Practice Placement Experiences

Whilst registered on our pre-registration programmes you will experience learning opportunities during placements in local NHS, private and independent sector health care settings. In the final year of the nursing and midwifery programme students who have made satisfactory progress, may wish to undertake an elective clinical placement at another hospital within the United Kingdom or explore opportunities abroad.

Keele University has existing partnerships with a range of international partners. The School of Nursing and Midwifery has student exchange links with a wide variety of countries for example Australia,Canada,Sweden and Turkey. Students will undertake a selection process to have this opportunity and if successful will have to self fund the costs involved, although travel bursaries may be available for some students to access.
