Welcome and Induction

For all home Postgraduate students starting their research course in September, enrolment will take place on Saturday 28 September 2013. You’ll be given an all-important KeeleCard when you enrol. It acts as your main form of identification and entitles you to discounts on campus and in some local clothing stores, music stores and nightclubs. You can load your KeeleCard with cash credit and use it as a discount card in the campus supermarket, cafés and restaurants.

Note: Irrespective of when your course starts during the year, in future years you will be required to re-register at the start of each new academic year. This will be done in August/September. This does not necessarily mean that a new year’s fees will be due at that time – they will be due on the anniversary of your start date.

Induction

All new home and international research students are required to attend a University Research Student induction programme, which will take place on Tuesday 1 October 2013 between 1.30pm and 3.15pm in the Alan Gemmell Lecture Theatre (0.15), Huxley Building. This is an excellent opportunity to hear from key members of University staff, learn about the services and resources available to you and also meet both new and current research students. An up-to-date programme of events for the day will be sent to your Keele email.

Research Institute Attendance

The Research Institutes will be holding their own welcome induction programmes on Tuesday 1 October between 3.15-5.30pm. You will receive additional information from your Research Institute (RI) which will tell you where you are expected to go. Please make sure that you note the time and venue. Following this induction, all students are invited to evening events organised by the Keele Postgraduate Association.

Non-September Starters

Students starting at any other time should enrol in the Records and Exams Office, located on the ground floor of the Tawney Building on the first day of attendance. You must enrol within four weeks of the start of your course at the latest; otherwise it will be assumed that you are not taking up your place. At enrolment you will be asked to check and sign an enrolment form giving details of your course and personal details. By signing the form you are agreeing to adhere to the University’s rules as set out in the charter, statutes, ordinances and regulations. A copy of these rules is available on the web: www.keele.ac.uk/admin/ps/governance/acts/index
