Mentees
Coming to University is a life changing experience. Most of these changes are experienced as very positive ones, but such a big change can bring with it some challenges. Our peer mentoring scheme aims to help you manage these challenges.
Everyone will experience the transition to University in different ways and often, for different reasons. We anticipate that as a new student:
- You might be the first person in your family to go to university.
- You might be returning to education after some years.
- You might not know anyone else coming to, or anybody who has been to, Keele
- You might be a new student to the UK, and not just to Keele University
And even if you feel relatively comfortable about starting University, you still might want a point of contact and someone who you can ask questions during the time you’re finding your feet and settling in to University life. Our Mentors are all current students who have been through the first year of University and explored the local area. Therefore who better to ask where's the best music venue is, where to order pizza from or how do I travel home? After all, they would have seen it all and got the t-shirt first hand.

We will then try to match you to a mentor from your school or to someone with similar interests. They will contact you by email before you arrive at Keele so you can ask them any questions you have. Then when you arrive at Keele you can meet them at the Mentor Launch Event on Wednesday 26th September. They will be there for you during your first weeks and months at Keele, to show you roound and give you advice about being a Keele student.
This is a great chance to find out more about studying at Keele from someone who has just experienced this themselves. They will be able to share with you their tips to get the best out of your time at Keele, what to get involved in, where to go both on and off campus. They will be here for you throughout your first year or for as long as you need their advice and support.
Applying for a mentor is easy. Just complete the online registration form.
Any problems or questions please email us at mentors@keele.ac.uk
It is best to apply as soon as possible so we can match you to your Mentor preferably by Friday 14th September. However we will also accept applications throughout your first year if you change your mind.
