Academic Induction - Keele University

New Students 2012

Academic Induction

During your first week/s at Keele you will attend a number of academic induction sessions. These are designed to ensure that you understand the expectations of the course and feel confident about the course you have enrolled on, to provide you with the opportunity to find your way around the buildings and rooms that you will use and work in during your time at Keele, so you can meet key staff, i.e. Head of School, Personal Tutor, Superviser, Administrative staff etc and also so you can meet and make friends with your new course mates.

Below you will find links to School/Programme Webpages. Many programmes will provide induction information online and all will contact you in advance of your arrival at keele to provide you with details of where you should be and when during Welcome Week.

What can I expect from my Academic Induction?

Programmes, Schools, Faculties and Research Institutes
Keele has fourteen Academic Schools within three Faculties. There are also five Research Institutes.  Each of these are responsible for teaching and research within defined subject areas. They are all committed to ensuring that every new student is successfully inducted to Keele, has the opportunity to meet staff and fellow students, understands the values of Keele and is well prepared for the demands of study within Higher Education.

Meetings, Activities and Events
Most programmes and/or Schools will host events (several are cmpulsory) where you can meet academic staff as well as other students in a casual and informal setting. Talks from staff will provide information about the content of your programme, as well as give information about modules which you have enrolled on and options for subsequent years of your study if appropriate.
In addition to providing invaluable information, all of these scheduled events and activities provide a great opportunity for you to meet key staff within your School/s as well as your fellow students. You will also be sent information about these, detailing details of times and locations of specific talks, meetings and activities.
Go to the Academic Induction section on the left for specifc programme, School or Institute information for their students, whether you are an Undergraduate, Postgraduate Taught or Research Student.

Timetable
Getting to know your timetable is crucial early on. Any changes to your timetable like changing your electives will show on eVision, so keep a close eye on this and get used to referring to it online regularly.
