SUSTAINABLE STUDENT HOUSE

Four BSc in Environment and Sustainability students are set to turn a Barnes bungalow into a showcase for greener, cheaper campus living.

The project, which will involve energy reduction measures and a vegetable garden, will be monitored for a year and results will be disseminated widely at Keele and nationally.

Dr Zoe Robinson (School of Physical and Geographical Sciences/ Research Institute for the Environment, Physical Sciences and Applied Mathematics), pictured above, and Dr Sherilyn MacGregor (School of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy/ Research Institute for Social Sciences), right, have been awarded £10,000 from the Higher Education Academy Geography, Earth and Environmental Sciences subject centre for the project, which is entitled '"Living what we're learning".

It aims to evaluate the impact on the University community of a sustainable student house.  The four students will be working under their supervision.

HEALTH AND WELLBEING WEEK AT KEELE

Members of staff are set to enjoy a range of activities designed to boost their health and wellbeing as part of a week-long University event.

Sporting drop-in sessions, complementary therapies, professional development and health advice will all be on the agenda during Keele's Health and Wellbeing Week, which runs from next Monday to Friday, June 10.

A highlight of the week is a stress-busting laughter yoga session, which aims to help participants lift their mood while having fun.

Ian Williamson, head of Occupational Health and Safety, said: "Keele is keen to improve and maintain the health of all staff and to provide a healthy and stress-free environment."

STUDENTS PARTY AT WOODSTOKE 4

Two thousand students descended on Keele SU this week for the biggest party of the year, Woodstoke 4.

The warm sunshine made a  welcome appearance over Keele making it a sell out event. Professor Green performed to a packed ballroom, whilst others enjoyed themselves in the silent disco and Kopparberg arena.

The weather was a good excuse for people to enjoy the foam pit, whilst other party goers competed for V Festival tickets in the Red Bull 'Can You Pack It' competition. Event sponsors Red Stag had students busting some moves in the dance off area  and the fairground rides were busy throughout the evening.

Ms. Dynamite was a highlight of the night with an outstanding performance, whilst DJs Modestep and Scratch Perverts went down well. The Sunshine Underground band and newcomers, Paradise Point, had the Ballroom in awe throughout their performances. Many have cited this year's summer party as the best Woodstoke yet!

 KUBE 24 HOUR BROADCAST

Keele's award-winning student radio station, KUBE Radio, raised over £1,000 for The Donna Louise Children's Hospice Trust with their '24 Hour Charity Broadcast' on Monday.

The aim was to raise as much money as possible for charity over a 24 hour period, in conjunction with Keele Students' Union RAG Week activities. Holly Beaumont-Wilkes and Dwayn, 'D-Won', Evans were challenged to host the marathon broadcast solely from one studio, with no breaks and no sleep.
