Latin and Paleography Summer School

The week-long summer school directed by Dr Nigel Tringham (History) has now completed its 31st year and continues to attract a wide range of postgraduates and independent local historians and geneaologists who need to learn or improve their skills in medieval Latin and palaeography. This year there were eighty students from all parts of Britain, Ireland, USA, Canada, and even Lithuania, there being no comparable intensive course providing the necessary training for historians. Besides group sessions during the day, evening lectures are also given, including this year one on the register of a medieval bishop of Lichfield and another on a medieval battlefield chapel in Nottinghamshire.
