Poetry Live!

Jo Shapcott, President of The Poetry Society, gave an inspiring reading on Tuesday evening as part of the popular Poetry Live! series. One of the UK's leading contemporary poets, Jo's wry and often visceral verse tackles issues of gender, identity and what she called 'boundaries' - the often murky border areas between ourselves and others and between science and art. Her treatment of medical and scientific themes clearly struck a chord with academic staff from those areas in an enthusiastic audience.

Earlier, Jo ran a workshop for creative writing students with Jim Sheard during the afternoon and later gave a reading, as part of the Poetry Live! series, to a substantial and appreciative audience.

The next and final Poetry Live! reading in the series on 5 June features Poet Laureate, Andrew Motion.
