Biodegradable and Reusable Carrier Bags at Select And Save

In response to environmental concerns, Select and Save, the campus supermarket, has introduced biodegradable cornstarch bags at 5p each and long-lasting reusable bags at 15p each. The initiative has received an enthusiastic response and many customers are choosing to purchase the cornstarch bags or bring the long-lasting bags with them for repeat shopping trips.

"The introduction of the new bags is an excellent example of collaboration across the University community," said Edward Youngman, Planning and Project Manager. "CFM, the KUSU and staff and students with environmental concerns have all been involved. KUSU are undertaking to phase out conventional plastic bags from its retail outlets from September and are currently evaluating alternatives."
