iLCS Team Wins Competitive Tender

A team led by Professor Miriam Bernard, Director of the Research Institute for Life Course Studies, has won a competitive tender from the Anchor Trust to undertake a longitudinal study of their new flagship retirement development: Denham Garden Village in Buckinghamshire. The team includes Professors Tom Scharf and Julius Sim, and Drs Bernadette Bartlam and Allison Smith. The initial grant of £270,000 is for the first 3-year phase (commencing June 2006), but the Trust's intention is that the research partnership should last for 10-15 years. Anchor Trust is the largest provider of housing and care for older people in England and details of the £60 million Denham redevelopment can be found at www.denhamgardenvillage.co.uk.

Professor Miriam Bernard has also been successful in winning a competitive tender from the Economic and Social Research Council to evaluate the work of the ESRC Research Group on 'Simulating Social Policy for an Ageing Society (SAGE)'. The £10,000 contract runs from April - Sept 2006. The core of the Group's work centres on the development of a dynamic micro-simulation model. Details of the model and of the Group's wide-ranging outputs can be found at www.lse.ac.uk/collections/SAGE/
