Biodiversity

Some of this variety, e.g. the birds, has been well-studied. Much of this accumulated knowledge is available on the arboretum website.

Keele is a good site for the naturalist and the casual observer of the natural world. The many footpaths that criss-cross the University estate enable much of this natural history to be observed in relatively close quarters.

We have a varied flora and fauna including 134 birds, 25 butterflies, 500 moths and 220 plants. If you add to this the 150 species of tree and the 220 varieties of Flowering Cherry you can see that we have a very biodiverse campus.

There is a guided walk leaflet and there are several booklets that you can use to make the most of visiting the campus.

There is also a sightings page and a blog that gives detail and photos of recent sightings.
