Postgraduate student Robert Ratcliffe: work receives worldwide exposure

Posted on 01 August 2010 A continuous, 28-minute mix of Robert’s music was selected for broadcast during RadiaLx 2010, Portugal’s International Festival of Radio Art: http://radialx.radiozero.pt/  Broadcast from ‘Radio Zero’ (Lisbon) and simultaneously streamed online, the three day festival featured over 100 international artists who participated through live broadcasts, recorded performances, and workshop events. Robert’s radio program was placed at the opening of the festival and included a variety of hybrid musical works created during his Ph.D. in composition at Keele.

His series of electronic miniatures entitled ‘Phoenix’ were also selected for performance at the Australasian Computer Music Conference (ACMC) in Canberra, Australia: http://conference.acma.asn.au/ACMC_10.html  These were programmed during the main concert schedule, and also included in the ‘iPerformance’ concert , in which selected works were performed using adapted ‘iPhone’ technology to control the spatialisation of projected sound within the concert venue.

Robert’s electronic work ‘Phoenix 5’ was recently selected and performed as part of the 60x60 ‘Order of Magnitude Mix’ at Congress 2010 in Canada, which is regarded as the largest event of its kind in North America.

Two of Robert’s electronic pieces were also included in specially designed listening structures (sound stations) at Sonic Vigil V in Cork, Ireland. Created by students of the Cork Centre for Architectural Education, these sound stations were located within St Fin Barre’s Cathedral, and contained a selection of music sourced from an international call for works.
During the last 6 months Robert’s music has been performed in a total of 12 different countries.
