Description

Students work on a chosen topic of interest within the area of Human Biology, often one that is in some way controversial. They research the subject by reading journals, reviews and textbooks, and then write it up as a report including some relevant published experimental findings with critique and conclusion. Dissertations are recommended for students who are principally interested in scientific questions and controversies.

To develop library-based research skills

Intended Learning Outcomes

Use primary sources to research and citically evaluate the current research and to discuss these findings to reach appropriate conclusions will be achieved by assessments: 1
Critically evaluate arguments, concepts and assumptions relating to the topic will be achieved by assessments: 1
Communicate the topic in written form, including graphs and tables as appropriate will be achieved by assessments: 1
Discuss any ethical implications arising from the research area will be achieved by assessments: 1


Study hours

Students will meet with their project supervisor every 2 weeks for one hour (total 10 hours) to discuss progress. Other aspects of the project (literature search, analysis, writing) is expected to take 140 hours over two semesters.
