Description

This module introduces students to the concept, philosophy and approach to performing scientific research by enabling them to conduct a substantial laboratory project as an individual initiative, and presenting it in a scholarly fashion.

Aims

To introduce students to the concept, philosophy and approach of performing scientific research by enabling them to conduct a substantial experimental project and presenting it in a scholarly fashion.

Intended Learning Outcomes

By the end of the module, successful students will be able to:

Carry out literature searches; 2
Plan and execute a piece of scientific research; 1,2
Design experiments and perform data analysis appropriate to a research question; 1,2
Discuss their results and make appropriate conclusions; 2
Organise and present findings in a coherent and scientific manner in a written report. 2
