Description

This module provides a basic background to the physiological systems of the human body and the pathological changes that occur during relevant diseases. The systems covered are the cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, urinary and endocrine / reproductive systems. The module is taught using both lectures and practical classes.

Aims

To provide a background to several physiological systems of the human body and describe the pathological changes that occur during major diseases.


Intended Learning Outcomes

Name and describe the organization and anatomical features of the following body systems (cardiovascular, immune, respiratory, urinary and endocrine / reproductive). Will be achieved by assessments: 1
Describe the physiology of these systems and the main types of pathology affecting them. Will be achieved by assessments: 1

Description of Module Assessment

01: Unseen Exam weighted 75%
2 hour exam
Exam comprises an essay and a multiple choice section. Some students will gain experience at this type of exam in Lsc10040. All students will be able to practice such questions on-line with outline answers provided.

02: Laboratory Practicals weighted 25%
Lab reports
The practicals are written-up as brief reports including answers to questions and/or graphs (or tables).
