Description

This module provides students with the opportunity to research in depth an appropriate area of Applied Environmental Science of their choice through independent study guided by a supervisor through regular individual supervisory meetings.

Aims

The aims of the module are:
1) To enable students to develop a detailed knowledge and understanding of key multi-disciplinary issues at the forefront of Applied Environmental Sciences research through carrying out an independent research project in an appropriate area of their choice.
2) To critically evaluate and apply appropriate Applied Environmental Science concepts, practical methodologies and complex scientific issues using a range of primary and secondary information sources as appropriate.
3) To develop the student's own learning skills whilst extending their subject-related knowledge and understanding at the forefront of their chosen area.
4) To develop the skills necessary to exercise individual analysis, initiative and judgement on complex issues and be able to communicate these at an appropriate scientific level via a written report

Intended Learning Outcomes

To have a systematic, detailed, coherent knowledge and understanding of a key multi-disciplinary issue/problem at the forefront of Applied Environmental Sciences, and to have made well-informed arguments and judgments on that issue, whist appreciating the limits of the current knowledge.
will be achieved by assessments: 1,2
To have applied own knowledge, skills and experience to an aspect of current Applied Environmental Science research (through the use of established analytical scientific methods, literature review, data collection &interpretation, etc), and to have developed the skills necessary to exercise own independent analysis, initiative and self-learning.
will be achieved by assessments: 1,2
Be able to discuss and evaluate orally and their project and chosen topic area will be achieved by assessments: 2
