Description

The 'Greening Business' module explores the environmental and sustainability responsibilities of businesses and will develop your skills and understanding in driving sustainability improvements in organisations. The module will provide opportunity for you to research and to drive recommendations for improvements in aspects of the University's sustainability performance. This is a module for all students who want to make a difference to the world and their place of work, providing a framework within which to consider employers' environmental responsibilities, and to provide the practical skills and knowledge to direct enhanced environmental performance in the workplace

Aims

This module aims:
  • to highlight to students the benefits to businesses to 'green' their operation and ways this can be acheived.
  • to provide introductory training to students in environmental auditory and Carbon reduction in businesses.
  • to improve students awareness of employment opportunities in the field of sustainability and explore their future employment prospects.
  • to provide students with the knowledge, understanding and skills to improve the environmental performance of their current and future employers.

Description of Module Assessment

01: Group Project weighted 50%
A video and written synthesis of a sustainability project carried out on campus
A video and written synthesis of a sustainability project carried out on campus, presented to environmental professionals at a group session, where the group will be required to answer questions on their sustainability proposals

02: Workbook weighted 25%
Completion of short workbook exercises throughout course
Set or workbook exercises. Note that this will be a longer set of exercises than that given to those students taking ESC-00004

03: Portfolio weighted 25%
Reflective portfolio
A reflective diary style portfolio
