Description

This module helps students develop key skills for the successful study and practice of Environmental Science. These skills include important field and laboratory skills taught as part of a residential fieldcourse in addition to skills developed during regular workshops highlighting the variety and range of Environmental Science work and research.

Aims

This module underpins the first year of the Applied Environmental Science degree. It provides clear environmental case studies highlighting the linkages between biological, chemical and geosciences in the field of environmental science.

This module aims:
1) To help students develop field and laboratory skills in environmental science research
2) To illustrate to students how an understanding of biology, chemistry, and geology is utilized in the study of environmental science and environmental problems
3) To help students develop and gain useful experience of a range of transferable and study skills

Intended Learning Outcomes

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the application of the geological, biological and chemical sciences to environmental science - achieved by assessments: 1, 2
Demonstrate competency in a range of skills necessary for successful study of environmental science in higher eduction (e.g numeracy, IT, visual, oral and written communication) - achieved by assessments: 1
Demonstrate familiarity with a range of ecological and geochemical laboratory and field techniques - achieved by assessments: 2
Collect, synthesize, evaluate and present environmental (geochemical, ecological, geological) data - achieved by assessments: 2
