Open only to NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS OF ENGLISH and successful completion of ENL-90001 (EAP3) , ENL-90002 (EAP4) or Academic English for Business (Part 1) or by recommendation of the English Language Unit (ELU)

Description

In this highly competitive climate you need something to set you apart from others. This module will provide you with the specialist language and professional communication skills you will require if you wish to pursue a career in business.

This highly practical module will build upon and complement your existing language skills by working on themes such as negotiating strategies and presenting visual information. Revision of essential grammatical structures and functional areas of language as well as building a subject-specific bank of key words will provide you with the confidence to engage fluently and competently in a variety of business contexts.

Description of Module Assessment

01: Online Tasks weighted 10%
Research assessment
1 online task requiring students to research various facets of a company

02: Presentation weighted 20%
Presentation
20-minute group oral presentation on a business-related topic. Question and answer period to follow presentation.

03: Workbook weighted 60%
5 writing tasks
Five writing tasks related to a business context including emails, formal letters, proposals, reports

04: Class Participation weighted 10%
Contibution to input sessions
The accumulation of skills built up over the duration of the module necessitates full participation in all elements. Based on the student's contribution to the input sessions, the mark will take into account evidence of a developing understanding of the skills covered and the quality of students' contributions.
