Description

The central theme of the module will be an examination of $ùBritishness&©: what it is and how it has developed over time. The module will examine British culture at the local level (The Potteries and regional dialects), the national level (the political system and the monarchy) and the international level (Britain's place in the world).

- To develop students&© awareness of a variety of aspects of British culture
- To develop students&© self-confidence in dealing with various aspects of British culture
- To allow students to pursue a particular area of interest connected with the course material

Description of Module Assessment

01: Project weighted 25%
Video Project
In groups, students produce a 10-15 minute video documentary about one of the issues covered during the input sessions. All videos will be presented for public viewing.

02: Portfolio weighted 35%
A portfolio of not less than 1650 words on a theme negotiated with the course tutor
1. A rationale for choosing a particular topic: 200-300 words 2. Research questions: 50-100 words 3. Literature review: 800-1000 words 4. Results: 200-300 words 5. Reflection:400-500 words

03: Reflective Analysis weighted 40%
Reflecting upon time spent in the UK
Students produce an analytical account detailing their experiences of British culture. This will take the form of ten weekly journal entries each consisting of not less than 150 words.
