ENG-30057: Dissertation in English

To enable students to research and define a topic in the field of English Literature.
To enable students to research, plan and write a substantial piece of work, locating their individual topic within the context of relevant debates in the discipline of English Literature and the humanities more generally.
To enable students to apply and discuss relevant critical and theoretical work to their chosen research topic.

Description of Module Assessment

01: Dissertation Plan (must pass this element)

Title; Outline (500 words); Provisional bibliography.
Students are required to produce: a title of their proposed dissertation; a 500-word outline; and a provisional bibliography i.e. a list of proposed reading, which will contribute to researching the topic. The dissertation plan will normally be presented by Week 12 of Semester 1.

02: Dissertation weighted 100%

A substantial piece of written work
Students will produce a substantial piece of written work, min. 8000, max. 10,000 words, normally subdivided into an introduction, conclusion and an appropriate number of chapters.
