Description

Designed for non-native English speakers with good oral communication skills and for those who have progressed from Pronunciation and Fluency Improvement 2, this module continues to take a practical approach to working through some problematic areas of English pronunciation at sentence/phrase level, as well as proceeding to tackle issues of advanced intonation and pronunciation in formal settings. Students will work to further develop clearer and more 'natural-sounding' English. Ample opportunities will be provided for discussion activities mirroring those to be encountered in an academic setting, and students will have the opportunity to prepare, deliver and lead a seminar on a topic agreed with the tutor.

Aims

To enable non-native-English speaking students to focus on improving fluency, while continuing to work on troublesome areas of English pronunciation, and developing the confidence and skills to lead and participate in academic seminar discussions. Students will work on pronunciation in formal settings, such as seminar discussions and interviews, and developing more 'natural-sounding' English. Ample opportunities will be provided for discussion activities for academic purposes and students will have the opportunity to prepare and deliver a brief seminar discussion on a topic negotiated with the tutor.
