Barred Combinations

Students can only take one Russian language module per semester. Students can only take one absolute beginners language module (90001) any one academic year. This module cannot be taken as a Level 3 elective.

Description

This course is designed for students with no prior knowledge of Russian. It will develop basic communication skills in Russian in everyday situations such as meeting someone for the first time, talking about daily routine, family, shopping and travelling. The module aims to provide students with the basic spoken Russian and with recognition skills of Russian alphabet. Students will also be introduced to some aspects of Russian culture.



Aims

This module is designed for those with no knowledge of Russian. It aims to equip students with basic oral, written and communication skills in Russian, and introduce them to different aspects of Russian culture.



Intended Learning Outcomes

Use simple phrases and sentences to describe themselves and people they know will be achieved by assessments: 1,2,3

Description of Module Assessment

01: Coursework weighted 20%
Coursework Portfolio documenting students' progress
The course work portfolio will comprise of formative and summative assessments completed during the course such as vocabulary exercises, written-up role-play dialogues, KLE tasks, listening and reading comprehension exercises, grammar exercises, very simple translations, written-up self directed learning tasks and class participation. Students will also be required to complete a reflective study diary.

02: Unseen Exam weighted 40%
2-hour written examination
Unseen examination testing writing and reading skills based on material studied.

03: Oral Exam weighted 20%
Oral exam
A short oral exam including reading, questions-answers, role-plays and/or presentation.

04: Listening Comprehension weighted 20%
30-45 minutes Listening tasks.
