Description

This module delivers the concepts, methods and tools involved in the IT architecture discipline, and examines the role of IT architects and software architecture within development projects. The module also outlines current architectural developments, such as service-oriented architectures. Students gain practical experience by undertaking a case study.

Aims

The aim of the module is to deliver the concepts, methods and tools involved in the IT architecture discipline and to examine the role of IT architects and software architecture within development projects. The module will enable students to gain practical experience by undertaking a case study for the coursework of the module.

Intended Learning Outcomes

&· Examine the role of IT architecture within a software development project
&· Distinguish between functional and non-functional requirements of IT architectures, and analyse and formulate non-functional requirements, such as security and performance issues, as part of an IT architecture solution
&· Design IT architecture solutions and specifications using appropriate modeling techniques and tools
&· Critically evaluate IT architectures, such as service-oriented architectures
