Welcome to Media, Communications and Culture
Media, Communications and Culture is a dynamic course, which involves both practical and theoretical elements. On the practical side, students learn how to make news programmes, the skills of digital photography, and documentary-programme making, as well as reflecting on these practices. On the theory side, students explore the ways in which we understand the terms media and culture both today and historically, and analyse how a range of media forms such as film, television, photography and literature produce cultural meaning. The media dominates our lives now and on the MCC programme students critically examine the effects of mass communication, the Internet and digital media. The course also considers how individual and cultural identities are formed, what power audiences and media practitioners have, as well as issues such as censorship, globalisation, and ideology. MCC is truly interdisciplinary, bringing together academics with expertise in Cultural Studies and experience in media industries.
