Support for Research
Research staff are supported in their research activity through the Research Institutes, who work closely with the central Research Support team based in Research and Enterprise Services. Staff development activities are advertised through the Learning and Professional Development Centre via our website and through our regular email Digest.
External development opportunities are available through various professional bodies and associations. The key organisation in the United Kingdom for researcher development is Vitae, who provide a range of materials, courses and events to foster the personal, professional and career development of doctoral researchers and research staff in higher education institutions.
Workshops
Outlined below are some of the in-house workshops designed specifically for researchers. Researchers are also most welcome to participate in any of our other staff development courses.
Preparing for an Academic Career
Rapid Critical Appraisal (Qualitative Research)
Rapid Critical Appraisal (Quantitative Research)
Successfully Crafting Research Grant Applications
Successfully Managing a Research Award
Postgraduate Researchers
To complement the research training delivered within the Research Institutes, postgraduate researchers have their own programme of events within the Centre, as well as being welcome to attend anything else of relevance. Please talk to your supervisory team about which sessions best meet your development needs.
