Professional & Personal Development

Keele University believes that continuous professional development is important for all staff, and all staff are encouraged to stay up to date. In particular, staff are required to keep abreast of the changing skills requirements for new and improved processes and procedures which they are required to use in their post. LPDC stages a series of development sessions focused on improving understanding and skills for new and existing work-based processes.

Updating Knowledge and Skills

The Centre runs regular sessions on Personal and Professional Development which provides an opportunity for participants to reflect on their own development, gain clarity of how the University will help and support them in their development, and begin the process of creating their personal development plan. In addition, we have developed a Professional Development Toolkit to help you remain systematic about your development. (It does not replace any format required by any of the professional bodies).

Being Mentored

Staff new to post often benefit from having a mentor, particularly during the early stages of being new in post. Ask your School, Institute or Directorate about their mentoring policy.

Additional information about mentoring can be found here

Getting That Post

When your development includes the possibility of moving to a new post, the Making a Good Impression session offers help in applying for posts and gives tips and hint on answering questions and interviews. The session takes you through the complete journey from analysing the advert to end of the interview.
