KLE Help for Staff

These short videos and documents are a good place to start with common tasks in the KLE. They are provided directly from the Blackboard On Demand Learning Centre and relate to Blackboard Learn 9.1 as used here at Keele. Please note that not all material held on the Blackboard site will be relevant to Keele as we operate a close integration with our student records system (SCIMS) and have a close integration with Turnitin for online submission of essays.

There are many more titles available via the On Demand website. Once you have looked at what is available there please sign up to attend a 1.5 to 2 hour workshop where you can get hands on experience of developing and working in the KLE.

To access the Blackboard On Demand site directly click here.

Turnitin and Grademark

Turnitin

Keele University subscribes to the Turnitin text matching service. It is recommended that all assignments submitted through Blackboard (KLE) are done as Turnitin Assignments unless there is a pedagogical reason for not doing so. Turnitin is not a plagiarism detection service, it only checks for matching text against its database. The job of plagiarism detection falls to staff who mark the work submitted, where plagiarism is suspected the submitted work is passed to the School's Academic Conduct Officer in accordance with the universities regulations. Click here for regulations about Examinations and Assessments.

The LPDC offers courses on how to create Turnitin Assignment Dropboxes within your KLE courses and how to interpret the originality reports produced by the system. The Turnitin website has excellent overview information about their service and is a good place to start before attending a course to find out how we use the service at Keele.

Grademark

The Grademark service is part of Turnitin and is used to mark work online and provide immediate feedback to students in both written and audio forms. It provides drag and drop of comments balloons which expand to give detailed information for students. Audio feedback is now a feature of Grademark with provision for a single 3minute audio clip to be recorded.
