Annual Teaching Symposium 2012
10th Annual Teaching Symposium
"Designing Future Learning and
Developing Professional Teaching Practice"
28th June 2012
Summary of the day
In summary there were 2 Keynote sessions, 6 Workshops and 17 short papers and 6 posters which showcased how Schools and programmes across the three Faculties are using technology in their teaching practices, developing new evidence-based approaches to improving assessment and feedback, and working to enhance curricula. Topics were wide ranging within the three themes. Sessions included the development of practical and personal skills within diverse disciplines, how colleagues are developing assessment practices at module and programme level and how technology, optimising the KLE and using web 2.0 technologies, is creating more exciting and dynamic learning environments and opportunities. The KAVE was available for guided tours as well as a showcase of 3D projection technology being used in the Medical School. The keynotes from the senior management team and from Colin Bryson of Newcastle University who co-presented with students from Combined Subjects challenged their audiences to consider the key themes of research-led teaching, internationalisation, student engagement and to hear about the Distinctive Keele Curriculum. The day was attended by 113 delegates from Schools and Research Institutes and supported by the staff of the Learning and Professional Development Centre.
