Keele Knowledge Programme

Why has the Welcome to Keele Programme been introduced?

The programme ensures that new staff are properly welcomed to the University and provided with up to date information about how the University works, its current priorities and culture.

How is the programme structured?

The programme begins with a 3½ hour session where you are welcomed to Keele and receive information about Keele and meet other new staff.  This session is followed by a variety of Welcome to Keele ‘Open’ workshops which cover specific topics in more depth.  You are asked to choose at least two workshops from the list.  A sample is shown below.

Is it an optional programme?

No, all new staff will be expected to attend the

  • Welcome session within their first year of employment at Keele
  • Plus a minimum of two additional workshops from the ‘Open’ programme within their first two years of employment at Keele

Who will deliver this programme?

Although the programme is co-ordinated by the Learning and Professional Development Centre, it will be delivered by a multi-disciplinary team of specialist staff from across the University.

What happens if a new member of staff cannot attend the first Welcome session?

To give staff maximum opportunity to attend, the session will be repeated throughout the year.  To view and book forthcoming dates please visit our on-line booking page.

How often will the Welcome to Keele Open workshops run?

It is intended that the ‘Open’ workshops will be scheduled regularly throughout the year.

How will new staff find out about this programme?

The Learning and Professional Development Centre will contact all new members of staff by letter, which will contain details regarding the ‘Welcome to Keele' session.

Other than attend the Welcome session and workshops will the participants be required to do anything else?

Participants on the programme will be asked to:

  • Complete a ‘reflection’ sheet after each session or workshop
  • Keep any notes given in a portfolio.  This will be the start of their Continuous Professional Development evidence at the University.

Can existing (i.e. not newly appointed) staff attend any of the Sessions?

The initial ‘Welcome’ session will be restricted to new staff but the open workshops will be open to all staff and will be advertised via the centre's on-line booking page.
