Writing and Using Learning Outcomes

Length of Programme: 2 hours

About the Workshop:

What are student learning outcomes?

Student learning outcomes describe the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that students are expected to achieve and how they are expected to demonstrate that achievement.  They aren’t simply administrative devices, but give students clear indications of what different programmes of study entail, what they can expect to do while studying them, and how learning will be assessed.

What do I want my students to learn, how can I express my goals to them and make these goals clear to my colleagues and myself?

This workshop will look at the broader reasons for writing learning outcomes, beyond the module, programme and institution of study.  It will explore how to write learning outcomes and plan assessment to support learning.  Participants are invited to bring along a module proposal they are involved in delivering for discussion.

Participants:

Open to all staff who are interested in learning objectives or need to put together a module proposal.
