Self-Directed and Problem-Based Learning: Harness the Power!
Length of Programme: 2.5 hours
About the workshop:
This 2.5 hour workshop is suitable for all University staff interested in finding out more about self-directed and problem-based learning processes, especially their application(s) in non-medical subject areas.
This workshop will outline the history, tenants and philosophy of the problem-based process followed by the participants taking part in an illustrative example scenario to illustrate these points. This workshop will be primarily discussion led and will give participants the opportunity to discuss self-directed / problem-style applications for their own subject areas with experienced tutors.
Learning Objectives:
• Appreciation of the history, application and pedagogy underlying self-directed and problem-based learning approaches.
• Experience the dynamics of these approaches first-hand.
• Discussion with experienced tutors with a view to informing your own teaching.
Participants:
Open to all members of staff.
