Project Management - The Middle Stretch
Length of Programme: 3 hours
About the Workshop:
This workshop has been developed for research students in their second year: often a time when researchers can struggle to recognise what they have achieved. It presents some of the key techniques of project management and students are asked to apply them to their current situation.
Advice is given on:
- what to do if you are swamped;
- are you working at the right level?
- how can you know?
- how to lift the level of your work to make your doctorate shine
- how to keep up to date with the immediate and cognate literature
- how to focus - are you too narrow or too broad? Again, how will you know?
- how to prepare for publication and present your work and what are your rights and responsibilities on authorship.
You are encouraged to be open and frank (under Chatham House conditions) about:
- Are you on schedule? - What does this mean for you?
- Thesis writing - where are you?
- Experimental work - have you hit significant snags yet? If not, why not?
- Analysis and discussion - how are you tackling this?
Participants:
Open to all Postgraduate Research Students
