Presenting in Larger Venues: Maximising your Environment

Length of Programme: 3 hours

About the Workshop:

Making presentations to audiences in larger venues can be a challenging experience, whether you are presenting your research at a conference, involved in public engagement or lecturing to students. This workshop will give you a chance to practice presenting in a supportive environment and obtain feedback on what went well and what could be improved upon. Your presentation will be filmed (and only available to you) so that you can reflect on it later.

The workshop will begin by discussing effective presentation skills in a large group context, such as using visual aids, making eye contact with the audience in differently configured rooms, dealing with nerves, etc. After a short refreshment break, the micro-presentation session will commence, with each participant presenting for 5 minutes, followed by 2 minutes of audience questions. This session will offer an opportunity for peer and tutor feedback on how the presentation went and how successfully questions were dealt with.

Participants must come to the session with a 5 minute presentation prepared. This may be on your research, your teaching, or on any other topic of your choice.

Participants:

All postgraduate researchers and others who are new to presenting in larger venues. Please note: postgraduates may not be able to use the booking system so please email lpdc@keele.ac.uk to book a place
