Preparing for an Academic Career
Length of programme: 2.5 hours
About the workshop
This workshop will explore some of the ways in which an academic career may be developed, including applications for lecturing positions.
Topics covered will include:
- The nature of an academic position, including the balance between research, teaching and experience.
- Submitting proposals
- Authoring research papers
- Undertaking teaching and administrative tasks
- Supervising research and undergraduate student projects
- Applying for academic positions, including sources of jobs, preparing applications, making a presentation as part of an interview, dealing with offers.
Participants:
Research staff who are seeking a career in academia.
