Mentoring at Keele

About the workshop:

Mentoring is becoming an increasingly important approach to support professional and career development for staff in Higher Education. Mentoring is a powerful development tool for all staff, and there are some good examples of mentoring initiatives at Keele.

The requirements of the REF, Athena Swan, the new Higher Education Academy recognition scheme and UK Professional Standards Framework are some of the drivers pushing the university towards expanding mentoring provision. The purpose of this workshop is to promote, share, discuss and disseminate experience, good practice, innovation and development around mentoring.

The session will include mentoring across the full range of staff groups within Keele, including support staff, research staff and academic staff.

The workshop will:

  • Develop a shared understanding of mentoring at Keele
  • Explore the roles of mentor and mentee
  • Identify the benefits of mentoring
  • Identify skills and techniques for effective mentoring
  • Explore alternative models for mentoring schemes
  • Consider how to set up an effective mentoring scheme

Participants:

The session will include mentoring across the full range of staff groups within Keele, including support staff, research staff and academic staff.
