Manual Handling
Length of programme: 3 hours
About the workshop:
A significant proportion of accidents at Keele University are attributable to manual handling or lifting loads. This course will help the participant to reduce the likelihood of suffering a manual handling related accident. The course covers relevant legislation, strategies for avoiding and reducing the need for manual handling, safe lifting techniques and handling awkward loads.
As the training will include practical lifting and bending, please could you wear trousers and suitable footwear. You should also ensure that you are physically capable of demonstrating safe lifting techniques.
Learning outcomes:
Having completed the course participants will be able to adopt the attitudes and techniques necessary to safely lift and handle loads of many types encountered in the workplace.
Participants:
All staff, particularly those who regularly lift and carry items as part of their daily tasks. The course is not designed for medical staff required to move patients.
