Introduction to Influencing and Persuasion

Length of Programme: 3 hours

About the Workshop:

The ability to influence people, and do so positively, is essential to success in all organisations. It is, however, not a modern activity. In the early 1500's Machiavelli's work The Prince outlined the fundamentals of achieving ends through power and influence. Today, staff are more concerned with how to influence without power or authority by using non-manipulative, persuasive behaviours to achieve desired outcomes. Such behaviours require the use of positive influencing skills.

This workshop encourages you to explore the fundamental principles behind positive influencing. Through undertaking short activities you will discover and use the key skills of effective persuasion and influencing. You will investigate the different approaches to influencing and how these can be used in particular situations within your workplace. The skills of positive selling will be adapted to strengthen the influencing approach through focusing on relationship and deliverables

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the workshop you will

  • understand the fundamental principles of influencing and persuasion
  • have identified the key skills to support the achievement of your outcomes
  • have practical tips and hints for influencing others
  • have recognised the connection between persuasive selling principles and positive influencing.

Participants:

All staff who would like to improve their skills and ability in influencing others, including key stakeholders and partners
